"Theology matters"
All Souls Christian Church is a theologically driven church, meaning we believe that all theology is practical and all practice is theological.
‘Theology’ simply means “the study of God”, and there is nothing of greater worth than contemplating the greatness and goodness of God.
Many years ago A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” What we think about God (theology) shapes and determines how we live (practice) more than any other factor.
THEOLOGY MATTERS is so titled for two primary reasons:
1. Theology, the study and knowledge of God does matter. As a church community in New York City, it is our desire to grow in our knowledge and affections for God. This has real benefits for us as individuals, our families, our work environments, and how we love and serve our city together. Theology is not something to be afraid of, but rather to be delighted in, to be formed by and to live out.
2. We will give ourselves to particular matters of theology that are pertinent and timely for us as a community. Each night, we will look at a particular topic or aspect of God’s person and work to study from God’s word.
WHEN: THEOLOGY MATTERS takes place on the third Wednesday of every month, 7:30pm.
WHERE: Park Central Hotel, 870 7th Avenue, New York, NY. This is between 55th and 56th Streets. Enter the lobby, take a right (at the sign), up one flight to the mezzanine level. We are typically on the left in the Gotham conference room.
WHAT: Typically, there is a 20 minute presentation on the topic with a handout. After the presentation, groups of 5 will discuss the topic and apply it to life situations. Afterwards, there will be a brief Q&A session, and closing in prayer.
WHO: all are welcome, including friends and colleagues.
